🛣️ How to Get There

Mawphunlur is about 75 kilometers from Shillong, and it takes roughly 2.5 hours by car. The drive is scenic, especially as you approach—winding roads, pine trees, and wide open views. While the main highway is in good condition, the last stretch can be bumpy or muddy, especially after rains, so a private vehicle is ideal. There’s no direct public transport to Mawphunlur, which also means fewer tourists and a more untouched vibe.

🌄 What to Expect

Unlike some of Meghalaya’s more commercial nature spots, Mawphunlur is delightfully low-key. The landscape is made up of rolling grassy hills, small natural lakes, and clear views of nearby valleys. You can go for long walks, sit beside the water, or just lie in the grass and watch clouds pass by. On sunny days, the hills glow golden green; on cloudy days, the whole place is wrapped in mist.

There are basic cottages and homestays in and around the village—no luxury, but clean and run by friendly local families. Meals are usually homemade and simple, so it’s a good idea to call ahead or carry your own food if you're unsure.
