Prut Waterfalls is located near Lyngiong village in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills. It is a lesser known waterfall, not crowded by tourists, and offers a quiet natural setting with minimal foot traffic.

How to Get There

The waterfall is around 1.5 to 2 hours from Shillong by car. To reach, take the route towards Mawphlang and turn off towards Lyngiong village. From the village, the road becomes narrower and less maintained, so driving with caution is advised. Local guidance or navigation apps may be needed to locate the trail.

There is a small space near the trail to park. From there, it’s a 10-15 minute walk through a forest path to reach the falls. The trail is not marked, and the ground can be muddy, especially after rain.

What to Expect

Prut Waterfalls is a moderately sized fall with a height of 40 meters, flowing over a broad rocky surface into a shallow pool below. It is surrounded by dense forest and hills. The footpath leading to Prut Falls and the viewpoint has been very well constructed. It’s a peaceful place to spend a quiet afternoon, and chances are you’ll have it all to yourself. Swimming or dipping is not advised due to the slippery rock surfaces and unpredictable water flow.

For the Adventurous

The area is suited for visitors who are comfortable with minimal paths and basic trail navigation. There are some rocks to climb and explore around the falls, and the forest area nearby offers quiet surroundings for short walks or photography.

Good to Know

  • Best visited between November and April

  • Roads are narrow; use a vehicle with good clearance

  • No entry fee, no shops or facilities nearby

  • Carry water, snacks, and wear sturdy shoes

  • Mobile network is unreliable in the area

  • Not suitable for large groups or people needing developed facilities

Prut Waterfalls is best for those looking to explore quiet, natural spots away from crowds, with minimal infrastructure and raw surroundings.
