Crossing the WA/NT border is one of those iconic outback road trip moments - you have to pull over for a quick snap with the big “Welcome to Western Australia” sign (or NT, depending which way you’re heading). Bit of a rite of passage if you ask me.
But here’s the thing — quarantine at the WA border is no joke. They’re super strict on fresh produce, so if you’ve got any fruit, veggies, honey, plants, seeds, or even some weird packaged goods, they might cop the bin. We learnt the hard way once and had to say goodbye to a whole esky full of salad stuff (devastating).
So either cook it up the night before into a veggie stir-fry or salad, or just make a feast out of it before you hit the checkpoint. They’ve got big signs and quarantine bins, and you’ll usually get asked to pull over for a quick inspection. It’s all pretty chill, but don’t try to sneak anything through — they will find your tomatoes.
It’s not an official campsite or anything, but there’s space to pull over and stretch your legs. Not really a spot to linger, but a fun little pitstop to mark the change in time zone (yep, WA’s got its own thing going on).
