If you’re road-tripping towards Esperance and looking for a solid leg stretch with a view, the East Mount Barren hike is an absolute ripper. It’s one of those climbs that’ll have you questioning your life choices on the way up, but the panoramic views over Fitzgerald River National Park make every step worth it.
It’s a steep but short-ish hike, so pack plenty of water and maybe a snack to enjoy at the top—you’ll want to soak in the view for a while. The trail can be rocky and exposed, so definitely check the weather before heading up (wouldn’t want to be up there in strong winds).
Not pet-friendly since it’s in a national park, but if you’re road-tripping through Hopetoun, this is a top spot to break up the drive before hitting the endless beaches of Esperance.
