What you’ll do

Spend five days traveling across Shikoku from Tokushima to Dogo Onsen, moving through traditional production, remote valleys, and ending at one of Japan's oldest hot spring towns. You'll start in Tokushima exploring the region's craft traditions at soy sauce and sake breweries, learning indigo dyeing at Ai no Yakata, and eating your way through local specialties like Tokushima ramen and bone-in chicken. The second day adds the Naruto whirlpools and a stop at a miso producer before dinner at a neighborhood izakaya. On day three you'll leave the city behind, passing through the Udatsu townscape and stopping at Honraku temple before heading into the Iya Valley to see the vine bridge and settle in for the night. Day four goes deeper into the valley with the scarecrow village at Nagoro, double vine bridges, soba making, and an Oboke gorge cruise on your way out toward Dogo. The final day brings you to the pottery town of Tobe for gallery browsing, then Matsuyama Castle and an evening soak at Dogo Onsen to close things out.
