Augstmatthorn is a spectacular peak above Lake Brienz in the Bernese Alps, offering sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and the turquoise lake below. The hike is moderately challenging, with some steeper sections, but rewards visitors with incredible alpine scenery. Along the trail, hikers often have the chance to spot ibex grazing on the rocky slopes, adding a special wildlife experience to the adventure.
For experienced hikers, it’s possible to continue along the Brienzergrat ridge, a high-altitude route with incredible views.
Note: this requires good footing and sure-footedness, as parts of the trail are exposed.

My personal tip: Time your hike so you can be at the summit for sunset, the warm golden light illuminating the peaks and lake creates an unforgettable atmosphere and is perfect for photography.
